Global Mean Temperature, July

WorldPhysical Environment

The global mean temperature for July; calculated by averaging daily temperatures (the mean of high and low temperatures) dating from 1880 to the present for a regularly spaced array of continental, oceanic, and Antarctic meteorological stations covering the globe

NASA

A map shows the global temperature map for July ranges across continents and oceans from less than negative 48 degrees Celsius to over 30 degrees Celsius.

The map shows the various colors for different temperatures. The darkest shade of purple shows regions with more than negative 48 degrees Celsius and the darkest shade of brown shows temperatures of over 30 degrees Celsius. In the southern hemisphere to mid-latitudes, the mean temperature ranged from negative forty-eight degrees Celsius to zero degrees Celsius. Temperatures below negative forty-eight degrees Celsius were observed in the extreme south of Antarctica. In parts of Antarctica and Greenland, temperatures ranged from negative eighteen to negative twenty-three degrees Celsius. In Greenland, the mean temperature ranged from negative six degrees Celsius to negative eleven degrees Celsius.

In the North Pacific Ocean, northern South America, much of Central America, most parts of the United States, parts of central Africa, the Indian Ocean (including Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea), and northern Asia, the mean temperature ranged from twenty-four to twenty-six degrees Celsius. Northern Africa and some parts of the Middle East countries experienced mean temperatures over thirty degrees Celsius.

Regions including India, west of Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Guam, and parts of northwest Asia had mean temperatures ranging from twenty-seven to twenty-nine degrees Celsius. In most parts of the Indian Ocean, South Atlantic Ocean, and South Pacific Ocean, the mean temperature ranged between zero to eleven degrees Celsius.

In Australia and New Zealand, mean temperatures ranged from nine to eleven degrees Celsius. In the northern hemisphere, temperatures ranged between zero to two degrees Celsius. In much of Europe and Canada, temperatures ranged from twelve to fourteen degrees Celsius. In the southern region of South America, temperatures ranged from three to eleven degrees Celsius, while in the southern part of Africa, the mean temperature ranged between fifteen to seventeen degrees Celsius.
