The language map for the Russian Domain displays both individual languages as well as language families. Russian is spoken throughout Russia, particularly in the western two-thirds of the country and along the southern border with China. It also is found in eastern and Southern Ukraine. Belorussian is spoken in Belarus. Ukrainian is spoken in Ukraine and a small portion of western Russia near the Ukrainian border. Armenia is spoken in Armenia. Romanian is spoken in Moldova. Altaic languages dominate Siberia and are found in pockets in western Russia, including an area east of Moscow near the southern Ural Mountains and west of the Caspian Sea. Caucasian languages are spoken in the Caucasus Mountains of extreme southern Russia, Georgia, and northwestern Armenia. Eskimo-Aleut languages are spoken in extreme eastern Siberia and Russia’s Arctic islands. Finno-Ugric languages are spoken along the border with Finland along the Arctic coast of western Russia, and throughout the West Siberian Lowland.
